Jointly building a bridge
case study
Three companies are being combined to form an IT service company. The purpose of the planned summer party is to bring together the approx. 250 employees and to strengthen the feeling of community.
Process One designs an event in which the participants work on a joint project and which, at the same time, symbolises the linking of several locations: “World Record for Paper Bridge Building.” The participating employees are divided into fifteen teams that build a bridge segment each. The challenge: The paper bridge needs to be so stable and resilient that all builders can stand together on the bridge. In addition, the individual sections of the bridge all need to have all the same measures stipulated and only the materials issued may be used. The teams may contact each other through their team spokesperson and exchange ideas in this manner.
All participants go to work with zeal. In only five hours, a bridge of over 100 m is created, placed into a circle and all employees stand on it at the same time. Positive associations emerge almost by themselves: quickly, the guiding theme “Friends on the same bridge” is created which describes the cooperation in day-to-day business dealings in the aftermath of the event and is noticeably perceived by everyone.
